SYMBOL & STORY
What Page of Wands represents
The Page of Wands represents the state in which a new passion begins to emerge in your heart and you start turning your attention toward its possibilities. There may not yet be any great achievement or firm confidence. Even so, the simple feelings of "What is this?", "I want to try it," and "I want to know more" can begin moving the story forward. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, a young figure stands holding a single wand upright and looks up toward its tip. Dry land stretches around the figure, with mountains visible in the distance. Rather than a richly cultivated place, it is a landscape that still feels open and undecided. That scenery can overlap with the image of someone who has yet to gain experience and is about to discover their own path. Salamanders are depicted on the figure's clothing. In Western symbolic traditions, salamanders have long been associated with fire, suggesting the passion, vitality, and creativity represented by Wands. In later tarot interpretation, this design is sometimes seen as symbolizing the power of fire that is still developing and the potential that has yet to grow. Arthur Waite described this card as a young person who appears to have something to announce, and in divination he also connected it with a messenger or someone who brings news. For that reason, the Page of Wands can be read not only as "a person beginning something new," but also as someone who receives new information or stimulation and then passes it on to others. Among the court cards, the Page is still in the process of gaining experience. If the Ace of Wands is the pure spark of passion, the Page of Wands can be seen as the stage of looking at that spark and thinking, "I want to follow this." Then, with the Knight of Wands, that passion is carried into actual movement. In other words, what this card values is not perfected ability. It is noticing that something has moved your heart and not ignoring that small flame. Even if you still lack confidence or experience, the feeling of "I want to try this a little" can become the entrance to the future.

- The beginning of growth
The Page of Wands upright represents a state in which something new moves your heart and you begin thinking, "I want to try this." On an inner level, curiosity and anticipation are likely to increase, and you may suddenly become interested in a field that had never caught your attention before. You may not yet be convinced that "this is my path." But there is meaning in the feeling, "That looks interesting," or, "I want to give it a try." This card encourages you not to wait until you have a fully formed answer before acting, but to learn while moving. In practical circumstances, new messages, invitations, news, plans, and opportunities to learn may come your way. A casual comment from someone may become the entrance to a new world. You may also find yourself in the position of communicating an idea or feeling to someone else. In terms of action, it is important to actually try something, even on a small scale. Research it, sign up, talk to someone, make something, visit an unfamiliar place. Light, exploratory steps like these help connect passion with reality. For example, if the question is, "I'm interested in a new job," this can be read not as a time to immediately decide to change jobs, but as a time to gather information or begin learning. If the question is, "I want to start creating something," what matters is less producing something skillfully than first enjoying the process of giving it form. If the question is, "Will someone contact me?", this card can also indicate a new message or an opportunity for conversation. The Page of Wands is free precisely because it is still inexperienced. There is no need to be embarrassed by what you do not know. Because you do not know, you can ask. Because something is unfamiliar, you can discover it.
REVERSED
Reversed meaning
Do not rush. Put your footing in order and begin nurturing your passion again.
- Spinning your wheels
- Indecision
- Impulsiveness
- Lack of confidence
- Instability
The Page of Wands reversed represents a state in which passion and curiosity are not being handled smoothly. You may want to do something but be unable to act. Or, in the opposite direction, your feelings may race ahead and cause you to move before you are properly prepared. If the upright fire is moving naturally toward the future, reversed that fire may weaken, scatter in many directions, or flare up suddenly and then go out just as quickly. It often appears as, "I want to do this, but I do not have confidence," "I became interested, but I cannot keep going," or, "I started impulsively, but reality has not caught up." On an inner level, hesitation and restlessness may appear. You may be too afraid of failure to take the first step, or you may leap forward without considering your current ability carefully enough. In either case, the balance between your passion and reality has become unstable. In practical circumstances, communication may be delayed, the news you hoped for may not arrive, or a situation may move forward while remaining vague. Information you heard from someone may also be uncertain, or there may be a gap between what people say and what they actually do. In terms of action, it is important not to become impatient with the thought, "I have to produce results immediately." Pause once and check what you actually want to do, what is missing, and what is realistically possible right now. For example, if the question is, "I want to start a new job," you may be motivated but still lack enough information. If the question is, "There is someone I want to contact," you may need to organize what you actually want to say before sending the message impulsively. If you have too many things you want to do, narrowing your focus to one may help you recover your energy. Reversed does not mean that your possibilities have disappeared. The fire does not need to be extinguished. It needs to be arranged into a form that can keep burning for a long time.
LOVE
Page of Wands in love
Upright love
In love, this card represents the beginning of emotional movement and a straightforward interest in the other person. Rather than deep, settled affection, the central feeling is something fresh such as, "I want to know more," "I want to talk," or, "I want to get a little closer." With unrequited love, your interest in the other person may increase and small opportunities to move the relationship forward may arise. When this appears as the other person's feelings, they may also feel curiosity or friendliness toward you. However, it is more natural to understand this as a stage where they are still finding out how they feel rather than as a firm commitment extending into the future. If you are already in a relationship, adding fresh stimulation can help bring back a sense of fun between the two of you. Going somewhere new together, trying something unfamiliar, or having conversations different from your usual ones can help revitalize the relationship. For reconciliation, the card can sometimes indicate the possibility that communication or conversation will begin again. However, rather than starting with a heavy discussion, it may be better to rebuild the relationship through natural exchanges. The first step is simply becoming able to talk again. For new encounters, there may be connections through places where interests are shared, such as hobbies, study, events, or social media. Rather than deciding from the beginning that this must be a destined relationship, it may be better to let it grow from the simple feeling that, "Talking to this person is fun." Because this card also has the quality of carrying messages, in love it can appear through actual communication such as email, social media, someone speaking to you, or an invitation.
Reversed love
In love, this card represents a state in which affection or interest may exist, but feelings and actions are not yet stable. With unrequited love, you may be interested in the other person but lack the confidence to speak to them. Conversely, your feelings may become so strong that you rush your messages or approach too quickly. It is important to watch the other person's reactions and leave a little space. If you are already in a relationship, your words or actions may become too casual and make the other person wonder, "Are they really serious?" Wanting to have fun together is important, but be careful not to treat promises or responsibilities lightly. For reconciliation, you may feel a strong impulse to make contact immediately. However, rather than acting only on momentum, it is better to organize what you actually want to communicate and what you intend to change from the previous relationship before reaching out. With new encounters, things may become exciting at first but fail to develop into a lasting relationship. Look not only at the other person's words, but also at their actual behavior and sincerity. Rather than trying to force an answer, gradually building communication can help improve the situation.
FEELINGS
Page of Wands in their feelings
Upright their feelings
When the Page of Wands appears upright as the other person's feelings, fresh curiosity and interest in you may be beginning to grow. Their feelings may be light and youthful: “I want to know more,” “I want to talk,” or, “I would like to be involved again.” Rather than deep love or a firm commitment to the future, it is easier to understand this as the stage where their attention is beginning to turn toward you. Something about your words, atmosphere, or way of thinking may feel interesting or attractive, making them want more points of contact. Because this card is also associated with messages and news, feelings can more easily become words or small actions. They may start conversations, react to you on social media, or look for shared topics as a way of creating contact. However, the Page's feelings are still in an early stage of growth. They may not yet know themselves whether this is romance or simply interest. Rather than naming the feeling too quickly, allowing the simple sense of enjoying each other's company to grow can gradually make its shape clearer.
Reversed their feelings
When the Page of Wands appears reversed as the other person's feelings, interest may be present while still remaining unsettled within them. They may want to come closer but feel unsure of themselves at the same time, making their behavior inconsistent. They may think about contacting you and then stop, or try to speak and miss the opportunity. The opposite can also happen: they become suddenly enthusiastic when their mood rises, then go quiet again afterward. This card can also appear as immaturity or lack of experience. Their feelings do not necessarily have to be false. They may simply not know how to handle them yet, so interest comes out through light words or ambiguous behavior. Even if something they say raises expectations, it is important to see whether steady action follows. For now, rather than demanding a clear answer, it may be better to create natural, low-pressure opportunities to talk. If the feelings are genuine, time and experience can gradually help them settle into a more stable form.
WORK
Page of Wands in work
Upright work
In work, this is a time when interest may begin to grow toward a new job, project, field of study, job change, or side work. You may want to challenge yourself in an area that is different from what you have done before or feel a desire to acquire a new skill. Even if you do not yet have enough experience, your motivation and ability to absorb new things can become strengths. Being willing to ask honestly about what you do not understand and learning by trying things can lead to positive evaluation. For a job change, the card may appear as finding a job listing that interests you, becoming curious about a new industry, or hearing about a work opportunity from someone. There is no need to reach a conclusion immediately. First gather information and observe how your heart responds to that kind of work. Regarding goal achievement, you are still at the starting point. There is momentum, but experience and planning still need to be developed. It is important to set a small goal first and turn one thing into something concrete. In workplace relationships, bright and straightforward communication can create a good flow. The card can also indicate a connection with a new colleague or junior coworker. Sharing your own ideas may also lead to a new role.
Reversed work
In work, this card represents insufficient preparation, lack of experience, and scattered concentration. Motivation may be present, but that enthusiasm may not yet be translating effectively into results. In new tasks, you may move forward without understanding something fully or have to redo work because you did not confirm enough details. Right now, learning the basics one by one is more important than trying to appear highly capable. For a job change, you may be wanting to change your environment mainly because you dislike your current job. If another role interests you, realistically check the actual duties, income, working conditions, and required abilities. Regarding goal achievement, having too many things you want to do may be leaving all of them half-finished. Choosing priorities and carrying one thing through to the end can help restore your confidence. In workplace relationships, be careful of small communication mistakes caused by thinking you said something or assuming you heard something correctly. Simply being more careful with reporting and confirmation can make the situation much more stable. The more you want to be evaluated, the more important it becomes to keep small promises rather than chase flashy results. Lack of experience can be corrected over time. Right now, this is the stage of building the foundation of trust.
MONEY
Page of Wands in money
Upright money
In financial matters, this is a time to begin learning about new possibilities connected with money. Rather than indicating a sudden large profit, it suggests discovering a seed that may lead to future income. Spending money on things that expand your potential, such as side work, a new job, qualifications, or learning a skill, can be read positively. It is also a good time to begin researching ways to increase your income. When shopping, curiosity may make you want something new. There is nothing wrong with enjoying that feeling, but the Page of Wands can also act a little impulsively. Before buying, asking yourself, "Will I still use this after the excitement wears off?" can help reduce regret. You may also become interested in investing or asset management. However, this is still a card of learning. Rather than moving a large amount of money, it is more suitable to build experience by researching how things work and, if appropriate, experimenting on a small scale.
Reversed money
In financial matters, this card warns against spending on impulse or moving money before you have enough knowledge. There is nothing wrong with becoming interested in something that sounds appealing, such as a new side job or investment. However, if you act only from the expectation that "This looks like an easy way to make money," the results may not be as strong as you hoped. When shopping, you may be especially likely to buy something the moment you want it. You may spend money on hobbies or new tools and then quickly lose interest. Simply waiting a little before deciding can help reduce unnecessary spending. With investing, understanding how something works should come before putting a large amount of money into it. Do not leave uncertainties unexplored. Research them yourself, and if necessary, consult reliable professional information. With saving, your goal may be so ambitious that it becomes difficult to continue. Set an amount that feels sustainable and focus first on creating the habit. This card does not reject spending money itself. Enjoy your curiosity while continuing to gain experience within a range that still protects your daily life.
RELATIONSHIPS
Page of Wands in relationships
Upright relationships
In relationships, this card represents new interaction and communication that begins to move a connection forward. Someone may contact you, you may receive an invitation, or a conversation may begin with someone you had not spoken with much before. In friendship, new connections are more likely to grow through shared hobbies or interests. Small expressions of curiosity, such as saying, "That sounds interesting," can become the entrance to a new relationship. Within the family, rather than trying to solve a difficult problem all at once, increasing casual conversation can help soften the atmosphere. At work, interaction with people who bring new information or new ways of thinking can be stimulating. Regardless of age, the card can also represent a relationship in which people learn from one another. Trust may still be in the process of developing. Rather than trying to create a deep relationship immediately, it is important to gradually accumulate conversation and action over time.
Reversed relationships
In relationships, this is a time when small misunderstandings are more likely to arise because of mismatched words or distance. In friendship, something you said without thinking much about it may be received differently from how you intended. With jokes and casual comments in particular, it can help to pay attention to the other person's reaction. Within the family, the desire to "make them understand" may come first, leaving your explanation incomplete. Rather than throwing your emotions at the other person, saying calmly, "This is how I feel," can make it easier to be understood. At work, be careful of missed messages, misunderstandings, and insufficient confirmation. Especially when dealing with unfamiliar work or someone you do not yet know well, adding one more check can create reassurance. Regarding distance, both extremes are possible: moving too close too quickly or becoming frightened and pulling away too much. Wanting to become close to someone does not mean you need to build a deep relationship all at once. Trust grows not from dramatic words, but from accumulating the same steady attitude little by little. Do not rush. Look for the distance at which both you and the other person can feel comfortable.
YES OR NO
Yes or No for Page of Wands
Upright judgment
- Judgment
- Yes
- Reason
- The Page of Wands represents new possibilities, curiosity, and incoming news, so it is positive for questions about trying something, making contact, or taking a first step. This is not a promise of completion, but a Yes to beginning.
- What could change the answer
- If curiosity is turned into real action and the situation is allowed to grow through learning and experience, the Yes becomes stronger. If enthusiasm is satisfying by itself and nothing is sustained, the possibility may weaken before it develops.
Reversed judgment
- Judgment
- Not yet
- Reason
- The interest or possibility itself has not disappeared, but lack of preparation and uncertainty make the situation too unstable to take shape immediately. Beginning on enthusiasm alone may make it difficult to continue.
- What could change the answer
- The reading can move toward Yes once more information is gathered, necessary preparation is made, and feelings or goals become clearer. Rushing ahead while everything remains vague or acting only on mood makes a No outcome more likely.
MESSAGE FROM THE CARD
Advice from Page of Wands
Upright
If something moves your heart even a little, do not ignore that feeling. It is all right if you still do not know what it will become. No one knows how to succeed from the very beginning. Research what interests you. Ask someone about it. Try it on a small scale. Even that can make your world a little larger. It is also important to try expressing what is inside you. Your ideas and feelings sometimes reach another person only after you put them into words. This is not a time to demand completion. It is a time to encounter possibility. Take care of the small flame that says, "I want to try this," and let it grow.
Reversed
There is still a small flame inside you. But perhaps you are trying to make that flame much larger too quickly. Or perhaps you are so afraid it will go out that you have become unable to move. Either way, return to one small step. Research a little. Try something for a short time. Ask someone about what you do not understand. Organize what you want to say before putting it into words. Even that can make your feelings much calmer. Being inexperienced does not mean you have no potential. You are simply still in the middle of learning. A slowly nurtured flame can illuminate you for much longer than a fire that flares up all at once. Do not rush. Grow your passion into a form you can actually handle.
